Employment Opportunities

POTOMAC TUTORS IS NOT ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS AT THIS TIME

Tutors will work at our Potomac center (conveniently located just 4 miles off the Capital Beltway in the Potomac Village Center).  Tutors do not travel to students' homes or other meeting places.

Description
Potomac Tutors provides top-notch educational services to clientele in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Founded in 1993, Potomac Tutors continues to uphold a tradition of providing the best in tutoring services in a wide range of subjects including standardized test preparation. We enjoy a loyal and consistent clientele.

Potomac Tutors provides an atmosphere of learning and respect for clients and staff. In order to foster this environment, Potomac Tutors employs tutors that have a demonstrated commitment to education and life-long learning. All efforts are made to ensure that the client’s experience with Potomac Tutors contributes to ultimate success. Maintaining this atmosphere requires professionalism tempered with good humor and flexibility. We seek tutors that possess the highest level of professionalism, yet can "roll with it."

We pride ourselves on offering an aesthetically pleasing work environment. Rather than cubicles and metal desks, we furnish the tutoring center with home decor to provide clients and employees with a sense of warmth and comfort.

Tutors work with students one-on-one.  Hired tutors are either educational generalists -- those talented enough to provide academic support across disciplines or specialists -- those able to tutor a specific subject at the AP and college level.  All tutors must be willing to build relationships with their students and make a minimum commitment to the end of an academic year.

Clients range in grade level from kindergarten to college; they attend both public and private schools.  Standard tutoring hours are Monday through Thursday, 2:30pm - 10pm, Friday, 2:30 - 5:30pm; Sunday 9-6.  Staff members are required to participate in high school Exam Review Classes, held during weekends at the end of each semester.  Staff members are also required to participate in periodic trainings.

A tutor is likely to perform some or all of the following tasks:

  • tutor, taking into account the differences in individual students
  • incorporate study skills instruction with content tutoring
  • encourage good study habits and self discipline
  • teach small review classes semi-annually
  • use information technology to assist tutoring
  • evaluate and report on the progress of their students, and discuss individual learning, performance and difficulties with students, parents and teachers
  • substitute tutor if other tutors are absent
  • attend trainings, staff meetings and other professional development activities
  • continually update their subject knowledge and teaching methods through private study and professional development activities.
  • carry out relevant administrative duties
  • contribute to revising the training curriculum and company organization to reflect tutor and student needs
  • prepare lessons and long-term tutoring programs
  • keep in touch and 'network' with other tutors
