Potomac
Tutors strives to provide an atmosphere of learning and respect. In order to foster this environment, we have
two basic rules. First, students make
the choice to attend tutoring. While
parents may encourage tutoring for a student, the decision to attend ultimately
rests with the student. Second, we
expect that students and tutors will treat each other with respect. We will not retain students or tutors whose
language or behavior detracts from the spirit of the tutoring center.
Potomac Tutors works with clients enrolled in grades
K-12. All tutoring takes place in our
Potomac Center, with each appointment being 60 minutes in length. Potomac Tutors prides itself on providing
“generalist” tutors. We believe that
students should be able to receive help on almost any subject from the same
tutor. This holistic approach to
tutoring provides the flexibility to meet the students’ needs as they change
from week to week.
Potomac Tutors provides two main types of one-on-one
tutoring appointments:
Weekly appointments are encouraged. They provide the best opportunity for the
student and tutor to develop a working relationship that caters to the
student’s particular needs. Weekly
appointments also provide a focused time for the students to review their work
and improve their understanding throughout the learning process rather than
just before tests. In addition, weekly
appointments eliminate the need for last minute cramming at the end of a
semester.
As needed: Tutoring is also available on an “as needed” basis. These appointments are booked on a first
come, first serve basis. We recommend
as much advance notice as possible, however there may be rare cases when same
day appointments are available.

We
understand that the lives of our clients are quite busy and occasionally it will
be necessary to miss an appointment. If
you know you will miss an appointment, please contact our office as soon as
possible as a matter of common courtesy.
Our office phone is (301) 299-6789, or e-mail katie@potomactutors.com.
Potomac Tutors does not offer refunds for missed appointments, but
we are willing to re-schedule the appointment under the following circumstances:
Early
Cancellations: If a client cancels an
appointment before 10 am on the day of the appointment, it is considered an
“early cancellation” and Potomac Tutors will grant a make-up appointment.
There is a limit of one make-up appointment per month for each
reserved weekly appointment. Make-up
appointments must be used within four weeks after the original appointment.
Late
Cancellations and No-Shows: If a client cancels an
appointment after 10am on the day of the appointment, or if the client fails to
show up for the appointment, then that client is not eligible for
a make-up appointment. You may,
however, schedule an additional appointment for which you will be charged the
Per Appointment rate.
While
we do our best to provide make-up appointments with your regular tutor, Potomac
Tutors cannot guarantee that a specific tutor will be available for a make-up
appointment. Also, please be
advised that it is the client’s responsibility to schedule a make-up
appointment. Make-up availability,
in terms of day, time and tutor may be limited.
Reminder: there is a limit
of one make-up appointment per month for each reserved weekly
appointment. Make-up appointments
must be used within four weeks after the original appointment.
If
a student has not arrived 10 minutes into an appointment time, your tutor will
place a courtesy call to the home (and cell phone if that number is available).
If a tutor is more than 10 minutes late to an appointment, he or she will
work with the student for the duration of the appointment, and will then offer
to schedule an additional appointment with the student at no extra charge.
Holidays Closings:
Discontinuation
of a Weekly Appointment
All
weekly appointments are contracted on a month-to-month basis and are presumed to
continue until the end of the school year unless Potomac Tutors receives a written
discontinuation notice by the 25th of the last month in which
tutoring will occur. The notice may
be e-mailed to katie@potomactutors.com or posted to 10122 River Rd, Suite 208,
Potomac, MD 20854.
